Bitfield Creek Windows installers are digitally signed using Microsoft Azure Artifact Signing. A valid signature confirms that the installer was published by Bitfield Creek and has not been modified since it was signed.
If Windows shows a security prompt, confirm the publisher is Bitfield Creek before continuing. A valid signature means the installer was published by Bitfield Creek and has not been modified since it was signed.
Before running the installer, confirm the following details.
Check the digital signature in Windows Explorer
- Right-click the downloaded installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the Bitfield Creek signature.
- Choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports that the digital signature is valid.
Check with PowerShell

Expected: Status: Valid and a signer/publisher of

Check the SHA-512 checksum

Compare the Hash value with the SHA-512 shown above (case-insensitive).
After verifying the publisher and signature, Windows may require you to select More info before the Run anyway option is shown. Only continue when the publisher is listed as Bitfield Creek and the installer came directly from the Bitfield Creek website. Bitfield Creek does not recommend disabling SmartScreen.

That prompt is SmartScreen reputation, not a virus warning. Our installer is digitally signed by Bitfield Creek; new certificates just have no download history yet. Two clicks:
- Click More info — the small link under the message.
- Check the publisher reads Bitfield Creek, then click Run anyway.
If the publisher is anything else, or "Unknown publisher", do not run it — download again from this page. Verify the signature and checksum if you want to be sure.
